A Message from the Organisers of Christmas Dinner for the Homeless

“For the 12th year running the C.T.I.C.D. Homeless Group are providing a hot dinner for those who are sleeping out on the streets so that no-one will be forgotten about on Christmas Day. Due to continuing concerns with Covid, provisions by other organisations and various issues with running the event inside St Peter in Chains Church Hall this year we will be distributing hot dinners in take-away containers – together with food parcels and presents to those who are rough sleeping over the Christmas period. We also hope to collect sufficient £5 meal vouchers, (Greggs meal vouchers are good as they are only redeemable for food and non-alcoholic drinks) to continue to feed these folks (on the 3 days of the week when there is no other food provision for them) over the rest of the winter period.

As we were overwhelmed by your generosity last year, we still have some stocks of the items we want to put in the clothing and toiletries presents (including woolly hats, scarves, gloves, toothbrushes and toothpaste) and have sufficient regular helpers to prepare and distribute the meals and presents. If you would like to help, we need:

Presents – men’s boxer shorts (medium), men’s and ladies short sleeve thermal vests (medium) and thermal (or equivalent) socks, hand/facial wipes, roll-on deodorant, simple drawstring toilet bags, small sized hand cleansing gel, small packets of tissues, bars of soap and soap boxes, disposable razors (in packets of 5 or 10) and shaving foam and medium sized Christmas gift bags (carrier bag size).

Food – individually wrapped chocolate sandwich biscuits (i.e. clubs, penguins, etc), mince pies, small cakes, tarts and crisps.

Donations – to purchase food for the dinners, presents and take away items plus the £5 “Greggs” meal vouchers we are appealing for (please specify donations)

Please leave any items at the Presbytery, for my collection by Sunday 18th December at the latest.

Have a wonderful Christmas – George “

LATEST WEEKLY PARISH BULLETIN

Parish Bulletin for Second Sunday of Advent, which includes a summary of Bishop Ralph’s recent message, 3rd December, regarding Covid precautions. Below is his message in full.

With respect to the current situation with the omicron variant it is important to ensure the following points are followed in our churches:

“That people displaying any symptoms of covid-19 should stay at home and not travel to church or participate in person.

That hand sanitiser is available to those attending the Church.

That there is a strong recommendation for people to wear a face covering (both nose and mouth) during the act of worship.

That there is good ventilation and air throughout in the building; in this case, because of climatic conditions, it would be important to remind people to wrap up well in church!

That a positive message encouraging people to get vaccinated and have the booster jab when able is delivered whenever possible.

That people who are engaged in a form of pastoral ministry which involves ministry to the housebound, sick and vulnerable, should take regular lateral flow tests to ensure they are safe to do so.  These are free from the NHS.

Thank you.

Have a blessed weekend,
 Ralph”
